Getting into Bhutan

The main air gateway to Bhutan is Paro International Airport, which is the country’s only international airport. According to the official Bhutan tourism FAQ, flights by Drukair and Bhutan Airlines connect Bhutan with cities including Bangkok, Delhi, Kolkata, Bagdogra, Bodhgaya, Dhaka, Kathmandu, Guwahati and Singapore. Private charters can also enter Bhutan with the necessary approvals.

Bhutan also has domestic airports in Yonphula, Bumthang and Gelephu, which can be useful for selected itineraries within the country.

Guests can also enter Bhutan by land through border points, depending on their route and permit arrangements. Independent travel is now possible, although the official tourism FAQ still recommends working with accredited tour operators for convenience and expert support.

Tips:

  • Book flights early during peak seasons.
  • Keep passport and visa/permit documents ready before departure.
  • Arrange airport transfer in advance for a smoother arrival.
  • Carry some local currency and confirm card usability before travel.
